Perched between mountains and the Ligurian Mediterranean coast, you are guaranteed to fall in love with the five UNESCO World Heritage Sites which make up the Cinque Terre.
Cinque Terre Day Trip
At 7:15 am the tour meets at the Porta Garibaldi Train Station, leaving the capital of Lombardy on the road to the Mediterranean coast of Liguria.
As you travel to the rugged Ligurian coast, you'll learn about the hard work that went into the settling of these lands, perched on the tops of salt sprayed cliffs. As we arrive in La Spezia we'll climb aboard a ferry, crossing the famous "Gulf of Poets" to Portovenere, which once housed Byron, Shelley and Petrarch in its pastel-coloured houses.
Then take a cruise up the coast, to the Cinque Terre themselves, where sheer cliffs are punctuated by the lively colours of its famous towns: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, the latter of which being where we will make our second stop of the day.
In Monterosso you can get the real taste of Liguria: with local specialities such as farinata (a chickpea based flower that's also gluten-free) or the mussels with white wine typical to the area. And if you're feeling energised by all this good Italian food, you can work it off with an optional hike up to the Capuchin Monastery, where you'll get spectacular views. Don't forget your swimsuit either, or you'll be left simply wishing you could dive into the crystal clear waters!
On the way back we'll make a stop in Manarola, the oldest of the Cinque Terre, where you'll have time for one more 'aperitivo' before making our way back to Milan, arriving around 9 pm.
- In the case of bad weather conditions, the boat may be unable to sail. In this case, we will take the tour by rail, making Portovenere unreachable. The tour will, therefore, include Riomaggiore instead.
- The tour involves a fair amount of walking, therefore comfortable shoes are recommended.
