Free Walking Tour of Milan
Make the most of your trip to Milan! Discover the secrets of an Italian city that combines the best of history, fashion and architecture on this English-language guided walking tour.
Free Walking Tour of Milan
Meet your tour guide at the scheduled time in the Piazza del Duomo, in the very heart of the Lombardy capital. From the city centre, you'll stroll through Milan's historic quarter, reaching the basilica of San Nazaro in Brolo, a church built in the 4th century on the ancient route that connected Milan with Rome.
Continue your free walking tour to one of Italy's most important educational institutes: the Statale University of Milan. On your visit, your tour guide will reveal the names of the famous historic personalities who have studied here.
Around ten minutes from the university, you'll arrive at the next stop on your tour: Milan Cathedral. Standing in the Piazza in which it is located, admire the exquisite Italian Gothic façade of the majestic Duomo. See if you can spot the different modifications and renovations that have been made throughout the years since its original ground-breaking in the 14th century.
Keeping up the pace, you'll then head to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Not a fan of fashion? Not to worry! The beautiful architecture of the oldest active shopping mall in Italy, and especially its magnificent immense glass dome will impress even the most discerning of visitors.
Walking through the arcade leads you to the Piazza della Scala, where you'll find the iconic opera house of the same name. La Scala has played host to numerous world-renowned artists and has become one of the world's leading opera and ballet theatres since opening in 1778.
After walking through Piazza Mercanti, or Merchant's Square, the final stop on your walking tour will be Piazza degli Affari, the city's business hub, and home to the Italian stock exchange headquarters. Here you'll learn how these areas got their names, and discover Milan's significance as the financial centre of the country.
