Take a tour of the Monumental Cemetery of Milan and admire the amazing works of art which are housed here. Challenge your preconceptions and let yourself be seduced by a fascinating place full of impressive monuments.
We will meet up at the gate of the Monumental Cemetery of Milan at 11:45. From the very first moment that you walk in and set your eyes on the main memorial building, the Famedio, you will be left amazed and easily forget that you are in a cemetery. During the visit, you won’t see simple tombs, but a large number of unique works of art, distinct from the typical monuments of Milan.
It was constructed in 1866 with the objective of unifying the smallest cemeteries which were in unhygienic conditions. Originally conceived as a standard graveyard, it ended up being almost a work of art in itself, crammed with Italian sculptures, Greek temples, and obelisks.
We will tour a large part of the Monumental Cemetery, so you can discover the most striking tombs and learn about the history of many of the notable people that chose this beautiful place as their eternal resting place.
One of the most surprising monuments is the white tower (similar to Trajan's Column in Rome) which has a depiction of the life of Jesus carved into it. Did you know which family this curious pyramid belongs to? We will tell you all about it on this tour.
You will be accompanied at every moment of the tour by an expert guide in art. For one hour and a half, we will tour the most fascinating locations around this exclusive cemetery. The guided tour finishes at 1:15 pm outside the Monumental Cemetery of Milan.
