On this excursion to Monza and the Royal Villa, we'll visit this city in Lombardy and its Neoclassical palace, one of the most important residences for kings and emperors in northern Italy.
Monza & Royal Palace Tour
At 9.30 am, we'll meet at Piazza Della Repubblica, where the bus will be waiting to take us from Milan to Monza. Did you know that it's the third-largest city in the Lombardy region?
In about 30 minutes, we'll arrive in Monza, a city that will dazzle us with its charm and rich history. We'll walk through the main streets of the historic center admiring its Gothic cathedral, the old town hall or Arengario, and the elegant Bridge of Lions.
After discovering the great attractions of Monza, we'll get back on the bus to go to the Reggia or Royal Villa of Monza, a palace that served as a residence for kings and emperors. The origins of this complex date back to the court of Archduke Ferdinand of Habsburg, son of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. The governor and his wife, Beatrice d'Este, made it a meeting place for the Lombard aristocracy of the 17th century.
We'll admire the magnificent exterior of the Royal Villa. This royal villa was designed in a Neoclassical fashion and divided into a central part and two side wings. The palace, together with two other buildings that were used for service and stables, has almost 700 rooms - impressive, right?
During the guided tour of the Villa Royale, we'll visit the second floor or Piano Nobile, where we'll find the rooms used for receptions and the private chambers of King Humbert I and Queen Margherita. After admiring their exquisite collection of furniture, we'll move on to the second floor, where the rooms of the guests and other members of royalty are located.
After this journey into a world of grandeur and wealth, we'll return to Milan, arriving around 2.30 pm.
